Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has signed a memorandum of understanding with a delegation of the Iteso community, outlining priorities for the community’s development.

In a statement on his X page on Saturday, December 13, 2025, the governor acknowledged the comprehensive agreement presented during the community’s Annual Leadership Conference in Kitale.

According to the governor, the memorandum outlined key areas that are crucial to the community’s development, such as the pursuit of inclusive appointments in government positions.

Other facets highlighted includes the preservation of Iteso heritage through a cultural centre, addressing historical land injustices, and fostering peace among the neighbouring communities as

Pledge of solidarity

The event was presided over by Oku Kaunya, the member of parliament for Teso North and spokesperson for the Iteso community.

Speaking after the function, the governor pledged to continue advocating the issues he says resonate with the aspirations of the marginalised group found across the western part of Kenya.

“I am committed to standing in solidarity with the Iteso community as we work collectively towards realising these objectives, and I look forward to our collaborative efforts yielding fruitful results,” he said.

He further praised the community’s acknowledgement of his advocacy for equitable resource allocation in Kenya through his Tawe Movement, terming it a testament to their remarkable political maturity and objectivity.

Mulembe Unity

The development forms part of the governor’s political outreach after his coronation as the western region’s spokesman by Vihiga elders in Netima, Bungoma, in September 2025.

The symbolic function of being bestowed with leadership responsibility was followed by his trips across western regions, which he termed as outreach to unite and consolidate the Mulembe Nation as it charts a common path toward the 2027 General Elections.
