Natembeya denies claims of being used by Ruto to sabotage DAP-K

Trans-Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya has dismissed claims that he is politically associated with or being used by President William Ruto.

Speaking on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, after a DAP-K party meeting at the party’s headquarters in Nairobi, the governor strongly distanced himself from accusations linking him to the president or being used by the state to wreck the party.

He noted that his clash with the party’s top leadership was being misrepresented as a move orchestrated by the state to weaken the party from within. Natembeya stated that, nowadays, when someone wants to finish you politically, especially if you are in the opposition, they first brand you as a mole.

Siku hizi, mtu akitaka kukumaliza kisiasa, anakubandika tu lebo ya ‘rafiki wa Ruto’. Mimi, msimamo wangu unajulikana, na Wakenya wanajua,” Natembeya stated.

He challenged the party to investigate if they believe there is anyone holding secret talks with President Ruto or acting on behalf of the state to undermine DAP-K, adding that Kenyans already know his political stand and that he remains firmly in the opposition.

“Kama kuna mtu wanashuku amekuwa akiongea na president, wafanye uchunguzi ni nani, maana kudeclare na kupata mambo ni completely different, maana Wakenya wanajua where I stand,” Natembeya stated

Natembeya also dismissed claims of external interference in DAP-K affairs, insisting that the wrangles and disputes within the party are purely internal. He maintained that when there are problems in your own house, you do not blame your neighbour.

“There is external influence in DAPK; kama kuna shida kwa nyumna hakuna kulaumu majirani. Some of us tulikuwa tunafeel ya kwamba yale maswala ambayo NEC ilikuwa inability haikujadiliwa,” he added.

Wamalwa’s caution

This comes moments after DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa issued a strong warning to President William Ruto, stating that they will not allow him to destroy the Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) as he has done to other parties in Western Kenya.

Speaking to the media after their National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at Chui House on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, Wamalwa said the party will resist any attempts to undermine multiparty democracy.

He noted that in Western Kenya, President Ruto has already taken control of other major political outfits. According to him, ANC under Musalia Mudavadi is no longer independent, Ford Kenya under Moses Wetang’ula is firmly aligned with the President, and ODM is now speaking of supporting Ruto after 2027.
