Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya now plans a three-day visit to Busia County.

While speaking at his home in Milimani, Trans Nzoia County, after a meeting with the Busia Council of Elders on Monday, October 13, 2025, he urged the county governor, Paul Otuoma, from the host county, to accompany him during his three-day visit, telling him that he should be part of the transformational process aimed at challenging the status quo and liberating the region.

Western Kenya regional tour

This comes days after Natembeya, who has established himself as the Western region’s kingpin, announced a tour around the Western region that will culminate at Bukhungu Stadium, where he will finally be bestowed with blessings to be the region’s spokesman.

The first county tour was in Vihiga, where Maragoli and Tiriki elders coronated him as the region’s kingpin and spokesman. The event was held at the doorstep of Musalia Mudavadi in Sabatia Constituency.

He was handed a whisk and a staff to symbolise his new role as leader, with the community now looking up to him for direction. After receiving the instruments of power, he lifted them up to signify his readiness and acceptance of the new status.

Traditions followed

The event was conducted in accordance with Luhya tradition, which requires that a ceremony of such magnitude be held past 3:00 p.m., a time when cattle are returning from the grazing fields.

This made the governor move quickly since he had an eventful day, making several stopovers beginning at Luanda Market, then Mbale, and finally Mundete in Sabatia, where the elders were waiting to bless him and permit him to traverse the country in search of support from other communities.

He then moved to Mumias, where he met with King Nabongo II, who also coronated him and accepted him as the region’s spokesman. He is now remaining with Bungoma and Trans Nzoia, where his Bukusu natives are domiciled, before culminating his journey in Western Kenya at Bukhungu Stadium, where he will receive his final blessings to go out and rally support from other regions.
