Mvurya, Kingi lead call for coastal region to stick with Ruto’s govt

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has led the call for coastal leaders to firmly support the Kenya Kwanza government and reject opposing voices.

Speaking during the burial of nominated MP Joseph Denar Hamisi on Saturday, December 13, 2025, Kingi stated that the region is beginning to reap the rewards of its allegiance to Ruto.

He noted that the government is addressing historical land problems and resolving the squatters’ menace, among other challenges, to improve the lives of coastal people.

“We used to fight and clamour for our problems to be addressed while outside the government, but it was very difficult,” he stated.

“Today, we are lucky that all elected leaders are in the broad-based government. This is the time to make our people feel a sense of belonging in government. It will be of no use if we are in government and our people cannot feel its services,” he said.

“I am happy we are beginning to feel the services of this government under Ruto,” he added.

His sentiments were echoed by Sports and Youth Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya.

Mvurya asserted that the region’s concerns are well catered for under Ruto’s government.

“For the people from this region, we have visions and priorities that are at the centre of government priorities. Moving forward, we need to continue supporting this government. There is no alternative plan from those who might try to persuade us otherwise; we have seen no policy or program from them.

“Under Ruto’s government, we have the promise to expand Kenyan ports and ensure economic growth here,” he added.

Mvurya further challenged the region to maintain a united front within the government and desist from political wars or supremacy battles.

His sentiments were also echoed by the United Democratic Alliance-allied legislator, Owen Baya.

The sentiments come days after the speaker asserted that Ruto faces no competition in the 2027 elections, as there is no single person capable of matching his development record.

He highlighted the significant development under Ruto’s administration, adding that his record left him with no serious contender to challenge him.

“In 2027, we have looked around, but we have not seen anyone capable of challenging Ruto. Have you seen any? We will have a competition without a competitor in 2027.”

“Ruto will emerge as the first, the second, and also the third. We are saying this because of what he has accomplished. In two years of this administration, this country has made progress, and because of that, we pray for him,” he stated.
