Muturi to Ruto: You cannot lecture us on politicking in church
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, February 4, 2026Democratic Party (DP) leader Justin Muturi has blasted President Ruto over his sentiments that the government will not tolerate leaders politicking in churches. Muturi has said that Ruto lacks the moral authority to lecture the united opposition over politicking in churches because he is a master in it.
Taking to social media on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, after attending an interview with a local radio station, Muturi has accused Ruto allies of paying drunkards to attend church events where the president is attending church. He has also called out leaders supporting him for bringing women disguised as church women into the churches at a fee just to get numbers.
“Rais anahubiri kuwa hataki siasa kanisani, ilhali watumwa wake wanahamasisha hata walevi na kuvalisha kina mama vitambaa vya kanisa ambavyo hata hawaelewi maana yake, ili waje kumshangilia na kuwashambulia wanasiasa wengine ndani ya nyumba ya ibada. Huu ni unafiki wa hali ya juu” Muturi said.
Translated as “The President is preaching that he does not want politics in church, while his servants are bringing even drunkards and women disguised as church members to churches so that they can celebrate him as he hails insults on other politicians. This is hypocrisy of the highest order.”

Attack on churches by Police
The sentiments from the former Attorney General have come at a time when the United Opposition has been opposed to the recent attacks in churches by police, targeted at church events attended by the Democracy for the Citizens Party Leader, former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.
The united opposition has recounted over 20 incidents of attacks by police, several of them at church events. The united opposition has called on the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to conduct a probe into the matter and make arrests of those involved in the attacks. The United Opposition has vowed to call for a mass action by February 16, 2026.
