Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and his Makueni counterpart Kivutha Kibwana have led a faction of leaders allied to the Azimio-One Kenya coalition party to decry alienation within the Raila-led political formation.

Azimio-leaning parties that registered their complaints included; the Muungano party, Maendeleo Chap Chap Party, NARC, CCU, Kenya Reform Party, Maendeleo Democratic Party and the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K).

Speaking at the presser, Mutua argued that fringe parties within the coalition have been dwarfed by their bigger brothers and their party leaders sidelined in key decision-making processes.

“We have looked at the document that they have prepared as a coalition agreement. We have not been given that document to go through.

We have been shown the document and we are not even allowed to look at it for a long time yet we are expected to sign it. In the document, they are forming a leadership head of just Jubilee, ODM and Wiper. And then they are the ones to decide where the rest of us will fit,” Mutua said.

The county head, whose concerns were echoed by DAP-K Secretary-General Eseli Simiyu and Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, stated that they are in disagreement with certain clauses in the coalition agreement that could possibly lead to the zoning of certain regions.

The leaders also demanded to be included in the process of selecting the running mate of Azimio’s flagbearer Raila Odinga.

The political party leaders further accused their coalition partners of keeping them in the dark, with Mutua revealing that they learnt of the appointment of Raphael Tuju as the executive director of the Azimio la Umoja secretariat through social media.

Kibwana announced the formation of a caucus christened Mwanzo Mpya, which will be tasked with bargaining on behalf of the political parties that were represented at the meeting.
