Murkomen, Duale unveil new medical scheme for police officers

Ministry of Interior and  National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and counterpart CS Aden Duale have launched a new medical scheme set to benefit security officers.

In a statement on April 2, 2026, Murkomen announced that the Public Officers Medical Scheme Fund (POMSF) would expand access from 800 to 6,000 public, private, and faith-based facilities nationwide.

At the same time, Murkomen assured officers that the new scheme will cover outpatient and inpatient services, dental and optical care, emergency and specialised treatments, overseas care, and annual medical check-ups.

“This new scheme expands access from 800 to 6,000 public, private, and faith-based facilities nationwide, and includes outpatient and inpatient services, dental and optical care, emergency and specialised treatments, overseas care, and annual medical check-ups,” Murkomen said.

He further noted the government’s commitment to honouring Security Officers’ sacrifice by guaranteeing them quality medical cover, together with their dependants, so that they can serve with assurance and peace of mind.

“Our security officers play a critical role in safeguarding our country. They serve in high-risk and often difficult conditions, mostly away from their families and loved ones,”he added.

Officers benefits

According to CS Murkomen, the Medical Scheme Fund will cover advanced procedures, including air evacuation, In Vitro Fertilisation, a structured Ex-Gratia framework, and Last Expense Benefits.

“Officers also benefit from advanced procedures, air evacuation, In Vitro Fertilization, a structured Ex-Gratia framework, and Last Expense Benefits, ensuring their health, safety, and that of their families is fully protected,” Murkomen said.

“I commend the Ministry of Health and the Social Health Authority, as well as the leadership of the National Police Service and the Kenya Prisons Service, for facilitating this transition effectively,” he added.

CS Murkomen further announced that the enhanced medical scheme is part of the ongoing broader reform agenda aimed at restoring morale and operational efficiency across the disciplined services.

Present during the launch were the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja; Deputy Inspector General of Police (KPS) Eliud Lagat; Deputy Inspector General of Police (APS) Gilbert Masengeli; Director General, Department of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin.

In addition,Chief Commissioner General of the Kenya Prisons Service, Patrick Aranduh; Secretary of Administration of the National Police Service, Bernice Lemedeket; and representatives of leading medical institutions in the region, among others.
