Murang’a Woman Rep Betty Maina claims Ruto’s second term is already secured
By Luke Oluoch, December 14, 2025Murang’a County Woman Representative Betty Njeri Maina has dismissed assertions that President William Ruto’s support in the Mount Kenya region is waning, assuring residents that the President is on course to receive overwhelming backing from the area.
Speaking on Sunday, December 14, 2025, during Ruto’s visit to Gatundu North in Kiambu County—where he attended a church service and fundraiser at AIPCA Igegania Gatundu North Diocese—Maina stated that Ruto’s reelection is a reality.
She added that only her own reelection, which she is actively working on.
Two-term
“Sisi ni watu wako na hatujaficha. In fact, ni mimi nang’ang’ana kutafuta kura yangu ya two terms, yako ya two terms ishapatikana,” she stated.
Maina, who has consistently defended Ruto’s administration, reiterated her allegiance to the head of state and agenda under the Kenya Kwanza government.
“We will support you, Mr President, and wherever you go, we will go, and your people will be our people,” she added.
Murang’a Woman Rep contest
Maina’s sentiments come amid a huge interest in the women’s representative seat she currently holds. Already, three MCAs from the Mt Kenya county have declared interest in dethroning the UDA-allied MP.
Among them are Kenyona Ward MCA Liz Muthoni Mbugua, Grace City of Kenyanyaine Ward, and Flasia Chege.

The three are allied to Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy Citizens (DCP) Party and declared their interest during a political rally in Kenol on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
“I have talked to the people of Murang’a, and they have promised to send me to parliament through the DCP party,” Grace City said during the meeting.
Maina won the seat by garnering 278,443 votes, beating media personality Everlyne Waithera Muithirania of the Jubilee party, who secured 111,163 votes.
