Mukhisa Kituyi: Research shows 60% of Kenyans engage in political discourse to oust William Ruto
By Mabonga Makhanu, April 20, 2026Former United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) chair Mukhisa Kituyi has stated that there is research which was done recently that showed that the main reason why 60 per cent of Kenyans are actively engaging in political discourse ahead of 2027 is that they want President William Ruto out of office.
While speaking during an interview with political analyst Herman Manyora on a podcast aired on Sunday, April 20, 2026, according to the United Opposition spokesman, Kenyans are tired of the current political dispensation and want it removed in its entirety.

“A poll was done recently on why Kenyans are engaging in the Kenyan political process ahead of 2027, and 60 per cent of them said it is because they support “Wantam” and want Ruto to be removed from office.”
He further added another perspective, saying that there is a trend among Kenyans that Kenyans do not vote for somebody but vote against somebody, and according to him, in 2027, Kenyans will be going to the ballot to vote against Ruto.
“Kenyans do not vote for someone; they vote against someone. They want to vote against Ruto.”
Desire to remove Ruto
He went further to state that Kenyans currently are not interested in any policy issues, but they just want President William Ruto to be shown the door.

Being the United Opposition spokesman, he added that despite Kenyans being driven by the desire to oust Ruto, they have begun drafting a governance framework so that the person succeeding in removing Ruto does not have a blank slate when he takes over power.
Mukhisa continues to state that the overwhelming repudiation among Kenyans of the current regime has disciplined the opposition not to look back or lose focus and put aside their personal aspirations and help in realising the aspirations of Kenyans and that it has also made the United Opposition have a sense of responsibility to the country.
Morara Kebaso’s view
According to civic educator and activist Morara Kebaso, this analogy was the one which made him detach himself from the United Opposition after beginning to appear to embrace them in early 2025.
He stated that after a meeting with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and asking him what agenda he has for Kenyans, he was given the above analogy of Kenyans voting against somebody, which he himself acknowledged to be true and the true characteristic of Kenyans.
He became dissatisfied and decided to ditch the opposition.
