MPs call for inclusion of clergy in Bomas talks

Five MPs in Ukambani region have called for the inclusion of the clergy in the bi-partisan committee talks between the Kenya Kwanza and the Azimio Alliance groups.

Led by Matungulu MP Stephen Mule, Machakos Town MP Caleb Mule, Kaiti MP Joshua Kimilu, Kilome MP Thaddeus Nzambia and Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai said the clergy should not only be called upon to offer prayers and mediate during times of conflict but kept away from the negotiating table in times of peace.

Mule said the church should be involved in the ongoing political talks in order to ensure Justice and peace in the country.

“We have seen the composition of the bi-partisan committees led by our party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Kimani Ichung’wa on the Kenya Kwanza side but where is the church in the talks? Who will be praying for them? We want the clergy to be included so that we can have peace and tranquility in the country,” said Mule.

His Kaiti counterpart Kimilu proposed for each side to be allowed to include two members of the clergy to the talks team.

“We know the talks will succeed because Kalonzo Musyoka who is a renowned peacemaker is in the team. What we are insisting is that members of the clergy should be included; two from the Azimio side and two from the Kenya Kwanza side for the team to be complete,” said Kimilu.
