MP Zaheer Jhanda asks opposition to reconsider their options after Infotrak survey
By Kenneth Mwenda, December 28, 2025Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda has reacted to the latest Infotrak survey, calling on opposition figures to reconsider their presidential ambitions and focus on more realistic leadership positions.
The Infotrak poll, released on Sunday, December 28, 2025, shows President William Ruto leading the 2027 presidential race with 28 per cent support. Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i follows with 13 per cent, while Wiper Party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka ranks third at 12 per cent.
Other potential aspirants, including Martha Karua and former Chief Justice David Maraga, received lower levels of support, highlighting the fragmented state of the opposition.
In a social media post, Jhanda stated that politics is determined by numbers, not noise. He noted that as President Ruto consolidates his position as the frontrunner, some opposition campaigns are increasingly unlikely to succeed.
He specifically mentioned Musyoka, Matiang’i, Karua, and George Natembeya, advising them to pause and consider alternative options. Jhanda suggested that these leaders could focus on running for county governor seats, citing counties such as Kitui, Nyamira, Kirinyaga, and Trans Nzoia as areas where local support, familiarity, and relevance could strengthen their political influence.
“The latest Infotrak Polls Are Out and the Message is Loud and Clear, Politics is Numbers, not Noise. As H.E President @WilliamsRuto Tightens his Grip as the 2027 Frontrunner, Some presidential Ambitions are Starting to Look More Like a Joke,” he posted.
“Honestly, @skmusyoka, @RealMatiangi ,@MarthaKarua and@GeorgeNatembeya Should Quickly Pause, Reflect and Consider Something More Realistic: Governor Seats. Kitui, Nyamira, Kirinyaga and Trans Nzoia are Right There. That’s Where the Numbers, Familiarity and Relevance Actually Lie.”

Opposition flagbearer
The ranking comes shortly after it was announced that the United Opposition will be able to front its flagbearer by the first quarter of 2026.
While speaking during an interview with Kameme TV aired on Friday, December 26, 2025, the former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka affirmed that before the beginning of April, the united opposition would have solved the puzzle of who would face President William Ruto in the 2027 general elections.
“I think that is what is going to unite us more. And of course, we are hoping before the year gets underway. I personally think within the first quarter, we should have agreed on who our flagbearer is, because, again, Kenyans want certainty to be able to plan and to make sure that William Ruto will not rig the coming election,” he said.
