MP Wanyonyi vows participation politics in Bungoma bid
By Tony Wafula, July 21, 2025Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, who is vying for the Bungoma gubernatorial seat, has affirmed that his campaign and future leadership style will embrace participatory and people-centred politics.
Speaking during a series of consultative meetings with transport sector stakeholders on Sunday, July 20, 2025, Wanyonyi stated that he will not steer chaotic, dramatic or cheap politics, instead focusing on dialogue, inclusivity and respect for the voices of ordinary citizens.
Wanyonyi emphasised that his style of governance will be based on listening, consultation and implementation of citizens’ proposals, particularly in the budgeting process.
“I will not come to command the people of Bungoma. I have humbly and politely come to you so that we can walk this journey together. My style of leadership is consultative, and I will listen to you, understand your needs and implement what the people propose,” Wanyonyi emphasised.
He said that during his time in Nairobi, he has developed a track record of inclusive development and wants to replicate the same model in his home county, Bungoma.
Wanyonyi stressed that the role of Members of County Assembly (MCAs) and other leaders in the budgeting process is vital, adding that their actions must reflect the will of the people.
“My administration will be most attentive during the budgeting process. Ward reps will not just pass budgets for the sake of it. We will have deep, meaningful public participation where the views of every mwananchi count. What the locals say is what I will do,” he affirmed.
The legislator further urged Bungoma voters to scrutinise all leaders seeking elective positions and to elect those with clear development agendas.
“I ask you to vote for people with an agenda. Vote for leaders who can transform your lives, not those who only show up during campaign seasons and disappear afterwards,” he said.
He reassured those who may not support his bid that they are free to exercise their democratic right and called for peaceful coexistence during the political season.
“If you have another candidate, it’s your right to support them. I am not here to fight anyone. I am simply offering myself to serve Bungoma. Those who believe in my vision, let’s walk together,” he said.
Wanyonyi also clarified his decision to switch his political ambition from Nairobi to Bungoma, terming it a selfless move meant to give back to his community and help unlock the county’s economic potential.
“I made this decision not for personal gain but because I believe Bungoma has untapped wealth, natural resources, land, manpower and talent. It is time we elevate Bungoma to the next level,” he said.
He further vowed never to use violence or intimidation in his campaigns, distancing himself from politics that rely on “goons” to intimidate or disrupt opponents.
“Let me be very clear. I will not use goons or engage in any form of violence in my political journey. We want clean, respectful and peaceful campaigns that focus on issues, not chaos,” Wanyonyi said.
He promised to create a business-friendly environment once elected, stating that his administration would ensure that the private sector thrives without unnecessary harassment.
“Business people are the backbone of our economy. My government will ensure a conducive working environment so that they can grow, pay taxes and contribute to the country’s development. We shall end harassment and create a partnership between government and the private sector,” he said.
In his address, Sirisia MP John Waluke threw his weight behind Wanyonyi’s bid, describing him as a focused and development-oriented leader.
“Tim Wanyonyi has demonstrated integrity and visionary leadership in Westlands, Nairobi. Bungoma needs a clean and transformative leader like him. He is the right person to take Bungoma forward,” Waluke added.
Waluke also took a swipe at past county leaders, accusing them of mismanaging public resources and failing to meet the expectations of the people.
“We all saw what happened in the past regimes, millions looted from the county coffers. We don’t even want the former and outgoing governor to comment on county matters. Let him exit the stage and go home. Let us give Tim Wanyonyi a chance to seal corruption loopholes and deliver real change,” he said.
