MP Wainaina makes U-turn, to run for Kiambu governor on UDA ticket
By Mathew.Ndungu, March 1, 2022In a surprise move, Thika Town MP Patrick Wainaina has gone back to United Democratic Alliance (UDA), a party he intends to use to ascend to Kiambu county’s top leadership.
Wainaina who had initially left the party over alleged unfulfilled money promises to small and medium enterprises that Deputy President William Ruto had promised hustlers during his visit in Thika is said to have paid requisite UDA party fees yesterday.
This comes barely three days after Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria declared interest in the same seat in what appears to have heightened political heat in the county.
Wainaina had initially shown interest in running as an independent candidate by the entrance of Kuria who is a political heavyweight seemingly saw him make an abrupt about-turn.
Reached for comment, Wainaina acknowledged that he had indeed changed his political vehicle and will be running on a UDA ticket.
“It is true, this is where we are. Let’s go to work now,” he said.
Wainaina will be facing among others Kuria, incumbent governor James Nyoro, Senator Kimani Wamatangi, Juliet Kimemia, Stephen Ndichu, Ferdinand Waititu and William Kabogo.
