Mosiria defends Matiang’i, says 2027 strategy is about unity, not rivalry
By Joel Masibo, December 14, 2025Nairobi City County Citizen Engagement and Customer Service Chief Officer, Geoffrey Mosiria, has come out to defend former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, dismissing claims of rivalry ahead of the 2027 general election.
Mosiria has also urged Fred Matiang’i to work with President William Ruto, adding a new layer to the evolving political discourse ahead of 2027. Taking to X on Sunday, December 14, 2025, Mosiria said the two influential figures from the Gusii community are instead framing their political alignment as a calculated strategy aimed at strengthening government and securing opportunities for their people ahead of the 2027 polls.
Mosiria has rejected suggestions that he would fight Matiang’i, the Jubilee Party 2027 presidential candidate, whom he described as a “brother” already serving the interests of the government, albeit from different positions.
According to Mosiria, political competition within the same camp would be counterproductive, insisting that his focus is on mobilising numbers to add value to Matiang’i’s influence rather than undermining it.

No rivalry
“I cannot fight my brother, who is already in government,” Mosiria said. “Instead, I am working to mobilise more numbers to add value to him in 2027.”
Mosiria went further to argue that Matiang’i’s political posture over the years has demonstrated a consistent alignment with the State, even during moments when he appeared to be associated with the opposition.
He recalled instances when opposition leaders publicly criticised Matiang’i, yet the former CS remained unmoved, a move Mosiria interprets as proof of strategic positioning rather than defiance.
“Remember, he was once a mole within the opposition, even when one opposition leader publicly attacked him,” Mosiria stated. “This is a clear indication that our brother is a mole.”
Framing politics as a game of strategy rather than open confrontation, Mosiria suggested that while he currently holds a position within government, Matiang’i is operating from outside its formal structures with the sole aim of weakening the opposition and consolidating power for the ruling establishment.

“The difference is I hold a government position; my brother is playing his cards from outside to divide the opposition and continue holding the government firm,” he said.
Mosiria maintained that two individuals serving the same political cause, even from different spaces, cannot be expected to fight each other. Instead, he said, their approaches are complementary and designed to achieve a shared objective.
In a defiant tone, Mosiria addressed critics who have questioned his loyalty and intentions, arguing that any attempt to single him out for criticism should equally apply to Matiang’i.
“So if you must crucify me, then my brother is no different,” he said. “We are all fighting for opportunities for our people.”
Fred Matiang’i is working with the United Opposition chiefs, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, among others, ahead of the 2027 general election.
