Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has issued a warning against attacking Mt Kenya, noting that they indeed have nothing to lose.

In a statement on his official X account on Saturday, February 21, 2026, Kuria maintained that the region, which has at least 7 million voters, will not file for a Presidential candidate.

Adding that its 7 million voters will back a candidate of their choice in 2027 and go back to peeling potatoes and chewing miraa.

“I have noticed that some ignoramuses have continued to use Mt Kenya bashing as a tool to prop up their malnourished standing in their own backyards. This used to work in the days of yore when we used to have Mt Kenya Presidential Candidates,” Kuria said.

While warning against the risk of attacking the region, Kuria explained that, in this modern era, the region is not only uninterested in a Presidential Candidate but also in a Deputy President and Cabinet Secretary position.

“Unfortunately the Ignoramuses have not upgraded their software. In this modern era when Mt Kenya DO NOT want to be President, Deputy President or even Prime Cabinet Secretary, it is ill advised even dangerous to continue using the Mt Kenya bashing card,” Kuria added.

“The Mlima people really have nothing to lose. Come 2027 they will casually walk to the voting booths, pour some cool 7 Million votes to one candidate from another community and go back to peel potatoes and chew Miraa. Na Mungu abaki akiitwa Ebenezer,” Kuria added.

Oburu remarks on Deputy President seat

Moses Kuria’s remarks come just a day after the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader, Oburu Oginga, declared that the party is ready to settle for the Deputy President position ahead of the highly anticipated pre-election talks with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Speaking during a consultative meeting held at the Siaya County Assembly chambers, Dr Oburu dismissed claims by some government leaders that the Deputy President’s seat is untouchable, saying ODM remains focused on negotiations that will safeguard its interests within the broad-based government.

The ODM leader emphasised that the party’s participation in the broad-based government remains firm, noting that they would not abandon the arrangement initiated by the late Raila Odinga.

“We’re going to negotiate hard, we won’t leave anything out. Those who thought that we’re not going to demand the Deputy Presidency, that is one of them. It’s not the only issue but it is one of them,” he stated.
