Moses Kuria: Ruto will be re-elected even without a single vote from Mt Kenya
Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has claimed that President William Ruto can secure re-election even without significant support from the Mt Kenya region, following the outcome of party primaries in Ol Kalou.
In a statement on his X account on May 10, 2026, Kuria congratulated Samuel Muchina of UDA and Kamau Ngotho of DCP after the two emerged victorious in separate party nominations ahead of the Ol Kalou by-election.
Kuria said the primaries attracted about 32,000 voters out of a possible 71,000 registered voters, arguing that the figures reflect shifting political dynamics in the Mt Kenya region.

According to him, UDA garnered slightly over 8,000 votes, representing about 25 per cent, while DCP secured around 24,000 votes, translating to roughly 75 per cent support.
“Let me take this opportunity to congratulate the people of Ol Kalou and the 2 winners, Samuel Muchina (UDA) and Kamau Ngotho (DCP), both of whom are, incidentally, my good friends. Now picture this. 32,000 out of 71,000 voters turned out in both primaries. 8000+ or 25 per cent for UDA and 24,000 or 75per cent for DCP,” Kuria stated.
“William Ruto will be re-elected even without a single vote from Mt Kenya because of the tyranny of small numbers versus the tyranny of numbers,” Kuria stated.
Kuria: Scrutinise my statement
The former Gatundu South MP said he had previously shared his political projection model in the media and challenged critics to scrutinise it further.
He, however, suggested that even a small percentage of support from the Mt Kenya region could still boost Ruto’s chances in the 2027 General Election.

“I can present this model again and again for anyone to poke holes. Now, if William Ruto gets 25 per cent vote from the Mountain? Let’s see if this improves on July 16 in Ol Kalou. Winning a battle is sweet, but winning the war is even more important,” Kuria noted.
Ol Kalou polls
Samuel Muchina Nyagah was officially unveiled as the UDA candidate on Saturday, May 9, 2026, after winning the party primaries conducted a day earlier. According to results released by the ruling party, Nyagah garnered 3,221 votes to narrowly defeat his closest challenger, George Wambugu Kanuri, who secured 3,077 votes.

The closely fought race attracted ten aspirants, underlining the significance of the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat and the growing political competition in the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
