Moses Kuria questions Gachagua’s diplomatic positioning after attacking Macron
By Emmanuel Rono, May 13, 2026Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has hit back at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following his remarks regarding the Africa Forward Summit.
Taking to his X account on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Kuria stated that the timing and tone of his remarks reflect a leader who does not care about this great nation. Kuria defended the summit, describing it as a major continental engagement that Kenya should be proud to host.
“The timing and flavour of Rigathi Gachagua’s comments on the Africa Forward Summit is further proof of a leader who does not care for this great nation,” Kuria wrote.

“We may have our local differences but for Kenya to host an event of this magnitude is something that all well-meaning Kenyans should be proud of.”
Gachagua’s attack on Macron
This comes following the remarks by Gachagua during a presser on May 12, 2026, where he launched an attack on Emmanuel Macron, claiming that the funds, reportedly drawn from the fuel levy meant for road maintenance, were used to compensate French contractors after President William Ruto’s administration cancelled an earlier Ksh159 billion deal and handed the project to Chinese contractor China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC).

“To the President, in the presence of Emmanuel Macron from France, it is important we let you know why Kenyans made noise to you at the University of Nairobi, Taifa Hall,” Gachagua stated.
“It wasn’t because of disrespect or hatred; they had a message for you. That the taxpayers’ money has been used and wired to French firms to the tune of Kenya Shillings 7 billion, as their children are not in school and they have no food on the table.”
Gachagua claimed that the government irregularly cancelled a Ksh159 billion contract initially awarded to French firms under the Jubilee administration before handing the project to Chinese contractor China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) at an inflated cost of Ksh200 billion.
Gachagua’s political approach
Kuria further challenged Gachagua’s record on international engagement, questioning his interactions with foreign diplomats while in opposition.
He further criticised the opposition figure, suggesting that Gachagua’s political approach could be divisive.
“By the way i challenge Rigathi Gachagua to post even one photo of him meeting any diplomat as an opposition leader. Which leader of the opposition can go for almost 2 years without meeting the international community? Rigathi Gachagua will soon reveal his true self- a village tyrant.. determined to lead a cult not a nation,” Kuria stated.
