Moses Kuria: I believe Nairobi deserves a better CEO

By , March 10, 2026

Former Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has taken a swipe at the Nairobi Governor, Johnson Sakaja, stating that the County deserves better leadership.

In a post on his official X account on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Moses Kuria expressed his belief on why Nairobi County residents should let go of Sakaja.

“Dear Nairobi residents and business people from Mt Kenya region. I am not a fan of Johnson Sakaja. I believe Nairobi deserves a better CEO,” Kuria said.

Kuria made the sentiments in response to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who questioned a series of demolitions in the city and its outskirts.

Gachagua argued that the demolitions targeted businesses owned by Mt Kenya residents. The former second in command further wondered why the demolitions were being carried out at night.

However, Moses Kuria faulted Gachagua’s argument, terming it flawed and misleading.

Moses Kuria on Nairobi matters

Kuria’s criticism comes days after he called out Sakaja over the flooding crisis that has disrupted several parts of the city following heavy rains.

In a post shared on X on March 6, 2026, Kuria questioned the county leadership’s handling of Nairobi’s infrastructure challenges, suggesting that the situation requires more decisive intervention.

“I have said consistently that you can not administer piriton where surgery is required. Nairobi requires a new Governor. Not even Receiver-Manager Musalia and Ksh 80 Billion can save the city. Tonight the Nairobi naval forces have taken over the flooding city. Anyway what does a villager like me know about the city?” Kuria wrote.

Sakaja’s impeachment outcry

Moses Kuria’s remarks come at a time of threats to oust Governor Johnson Sakaja from the Nairobi County Government leadership.

Meanwhile, Rigathi Gachagua recently stated that, despite not liking the Nairobi governor, Johnson Sakaja, he does not want him to be impeached.

While speaking during an interview with local Meru radio stations on Friday, March 7, 2026, the outspoken Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader said that although he is not on good terms with Sakaja, he does not wish to see him face an impeachment as he did.

He added that the embattled governor, who was recently on the verge of being impeached, should be given ample time and a good working environment to finish his term and be removed at the ballot by Nairobi residents themselves, rather than be ousted from office.

Hata huyu governor Sakaja, mimi simpendi hata kama ameumiza watu wetu lakini sitaki atolewe kwa impeachment; apatiwe nafasi ya miaka tano amalize kazi yake, tutamtoa,” Gachagua stated.

Gachagua pointed accusing fingers at the head of state, President William Ruto, claiming that he is behind the push to have Sakaja removed from office.

He noted that the president is facilitating members of the county assembly to push for the governor’s impeachment.

He also expressed concern that since the 2010 constitution came into place and devolution was introduced, it is only the Mount Kenya region that has developed a habit of impeaching its leaders.

Tangu devolution ianze mlima pekee yake ndio inafukuza magivernor; watu wetu wanapenda pesa sana.”
