Morara Kebaso tells Maraga to quit presidential race after Nyamira heckling

By , August 9, 2025

Youth activist Morara Kebaso has reacted to a recent incident in which former Chief Justice David Maraga was heckled in Nyamira during the burial of Catherine Moraa on Friday, August 8.

In a statement posted on his social media pages on Saturday, August 8, 2025, Kebaso remarked that the same voters who jeered Maraga will participate in the 2027 elections, claiming they neither care for nor value those who serve them.

He said Maraga had served the country well and should enjoy a peaceful and honourable retirement instead of engaging with people who will choose leaders at their discretion and live with the consequences.

“These are the voters that will vote in 2027. They don’t care. They don’t want it. They are not worth dying for. Tata Maraga, you served your country well. You deserve a peaceful retirement with honour; stop bothering these people, let them elect whatever they want, and suffer the consequences,” Morara said.

Kebaso, who recently announced his withdrawal from politics, went on to say that he is now thriving. He revealed that he has gained five kilograms and is on track to become the youngest Kenyan to appear on the Forbes list, attributing his progress to returning home and surrounding himself with people who truly support him.

“Have you seen the way I glow lately? I have added 5 kgs of weight and am on track to be the youngest Kenyan on the Forbes list. How? I went back home to the people who love me,“ he added.

Heckling

During the funeral, Maraga, who has announced his interest in the 2027 general election, faced a hostile crowd despite being a native of the area.

He was heckled and met with a visibly angry audience but braved the disruption to address the mourners.

In his remarks, he condemned the government’s ongoing corruption, lawlessness, and disregard for justice, vowing to continue advocating for the rule of law until the end.

Mimi nitaendelea hadi mwisho vile serikali inaendelea, ile wizi inaendelea, vile kutotii sheria inaendelea; nitafuata hadi mwisho, na mimi nitasimamia haki,” Maraga stated.
