Millie Odhiambo expresses interest in 2032 presidency

By , May 17, 2026

Suba North Member of Parliament (MP) Millie Odhiambo has publicly hinted at a possible 2032 presidential bid, becoming the latest Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) member and lawmaker to express interest in Kenya’s highest office.

Odhiambo, on Sunday, May 17, 2026, sparked debate online after sharing a bold message suggesting she intends to contest for the presidency and potentially become Kenya’s first female Head of State.

In a post shared via her official Facebook account that quickly attracted reactions from supporters and critics alike, Odhiambo urged Kenyans to start familiarising themselves with her as the head of state come 2032.

“Good morning good people.. Bad Gal going for the MAiN Corner Office in 2032. Zoea your President chon time. Mapema ndiyo best,” Millie Odhiambo wrote.

Growing ODM succession conversation

Odhiambo now joins a growing list of ODM lawmakers and members alike who have openly discussed possible presidential ambitions beyond the 2027 General Election.

National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi is one of the ODM party members who have declared their interest in the 2032 presidential contest.

While speaking in Kayole on Saturday, May 2, 2026, the CS stated that after President William Ruto finishes his term in 2032, he will throw himself into the presidential race meant to succeed Ruto, who will have completed his 10-year tenure as head of state.

Mbadi stated that he has nothing to fear in pursuing the top seat, saying that while others may be hesitant, he is ready to take on the challenge when the time comes.

Tukishapatia Ruto tutam, mimi kama John Mbadi sitaogopa. 2032 ikifika nitakuja kwa uwanja na nitaomba kura; mkikubaliana na mimi, pia nitaongoza nchi,” Mbadi declared.

Mbadi’s bid came months after Embakasi East MP Babu Owino declared his interest in the 2032 presidency.

Owino, who is aiming for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2027, said he will only serve for one term as a governor should Nairobi residents elect him and then aim for a higher office in the subsequent election.

“In 2032, we go for the president. Whoever we are going to put as Linda Mwananchi, I will serve one term. That is how it is,” Owino said during a radio interview on Monday, May 4, 2026.

He also confirmed that he will contest the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2027 under the Linda Mwananchi movement rather than the ODM Party ticket.

He also stated that ODM is no longer central to his political direction.

“ODM does not exist;sahii tuko na lemon,” he said.

Push for female leadership

If Millie Odhiambo eventually contests, she will become one of the most prominent female politicians to seek Kenya’s presidency openly.

People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua also holds similar ambitions.

Kenya has never elected a woman president since independence, despite several women rising to senior positions in government, Parliament, and the judiciary.

Odhiambo, known for her outspoken political style and strong advocacy on governance and gender issues, has served multiple terms as MP for Suba North and remains one of the most recognisable female figures in Kenyan politics.
