Mavoko MP Makau reveals interest in Machakos Governor’s seat
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, February 16, 2026Mavoko Member of Parliament Patrick Makau has hinted at the possibility of him vying for the position of governor in Machakos County during the 2027 general election.
Taking it to his social media X handle on Monday, February 16, 2026, Makau has indicated interest in the top seat in the county, saying he has a dream to restore the glory of the county government of Machakos. The lawmaker has said that he aims to provide transformative leadership in the county, focused and accountable.
“Happy New Week, Machakos. The dream of restoring the glory of our country lives strongly in my heart. I am ready to provide focused, accountable, and transformative leadership for a greater Machakos,” Makau stated.

Makau, who has served as the Member of Parliament for the Mavoko Constituency since 2013, will be facing off with the current Machakos governor, Wavinya Ndeti, who is a first-time governor and will be seeking to secure his reelection as the county boss.
The two, Governor Wavinya and MP Makau, are elected on a Wiper Patriotic Movement Party led by former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka. Should Makau run for the position of governor, he will be engaged in a tussle with the current governor to secure the party ticket to run for the position.
The lawmaker has, however, not hinted at the party he will be using to seek the election as the county CEO.
Wavinya warns opponents of tough contest

The lawmaker has announced his bid, while the current Governor Wavinya Ndeti has warned her political opponents to brace themselves for a tougher electoral contest in the 2027 elections.
Speaking at a rally in Mlolongo on Saturday, December 20, 2025, Ndeti stated that her immediate task is fulfilling her mandate to the people of Machakos. She pledged to carry out the responsibility with utmost fidelity.
“My opponents came here to Mumbuni, attacking me with every single opportunity, and I defeated all of them. That was just the beginning of the defeat they will face,” she said.
Wavinya also reflected on the recent by-election, where her Wiper cemented its regional dominance by clinching the hotly contested Mumbuni North by-election seat.
