Matiang’i to Ruto: Asking for 5 more years raises questions
By Cynthia Lodite, February 9, 2026Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has questioned the rationale behind President William Ruto’s re-election bid, demanding that the five more years call raises questions on service delivery.
In a post shared on his official X account on Monday 9,2026, Matiang’i challenged Ruto’s regime for three and a half years, describing it as a term packed with lack of various accomplishments.
On his part, Matiang’i criticised the administration’s performance, explaining that additional time will not make a difference in the lives of Kenyans.
“Asking for five more years raises one simple question: what difference will it make in the lives of the people? Kenyans deserve better. It’s time to fix this country,” Matiang’i stated.
The former CS went on diminishing Ruto’s run for another term, questioning why the administration needed another five years, whereas authorities such as the Social Health Authority still fall short of scandals.
“Ata wakiuliza kila wakati waongozewe miaka tano tena, wao tunawaongezea muda kufanya nini?,” Matiang’i said. “Tuwaongezee muda tuzidi kuteseka na SHA,” he added.

Ruto’s warning to Opposition leaders
Matiangi’s remarks come days after President William Ruto came out questioning the United Opposition team’s political agenda, calling on them to present their manifesto to Kenyans instead of threats of nationwide demonstrations.
Speaking during the NYOTA Capital disbursement event in Mombasa County on Friday, February 6, 2026, Ruto criticised the planned demonstrations, describing them as destructive.
“Nimesikia wale majamaa wengine kule ati wanasema wanapanga maandamano ati wanataka vijana wakufanya maandamano na fujo,” Ruto explained.
On his part, Ruto revealed that following past interactions, he had asked the leaders what their agenda was, but he has yet to get feedback from the leaders.
“Mimi nimewauliza na bado hawajanijibu. Nyinyi sera yenyu ni gani? Mipango yenu ni gani? Ajenda yenu ni gani?” Ruto said.
While highly criticising the United Opposition leaders, Ruto insisted that the leaders lack a clear blueprint for the Kenyan youths.
“Hawana ajenda ya vijana…wale watu tunawaambia msitubebe ufala bana,” Ruto added.
