Presidential hopeful and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has urged the Opposition and Kenyans to embrace unity and patience as the Opposition charts its path forward, insisting that the real test will be how leaders and citizens handle the journey ahead.

Speaking during a press briefing on Friday, October 3, 2025, Matiang’i acknowledged that the road will not be easy but stressed that working together was the only way to secure the country’s future.

“Our patience will be tested, our sense of patriotism will be tested. We must work together,” Matiang’i said, noting that moments of political transition demand calmness and cooperation rather than division.

He outlined the Opposition’s current structure, emphasising the importance of collective responsibility.

“We have two conveners of the Opposition, that is Martha Karua and Kalonzo Musyoka. We have an official spokesperson who is Mukhisa Kituyi. We have to act institutionally,” he explained.

Matiang’i added that the Opposition leadership was committed to providing a united voice that Kenyans could trust, saying any decisions would be communicated at the right time.

“We will address this issue at the right time, we are working a journey that will test our political maturity,” Matiangi said.

In his message, he appealed to Kenyans not to lose faith in the process, assuring them of his personal commitment.

“I am willing to be very patient and stay with the course and work with Kenyans. It will take us time to get there, all of us,” he said.

The former CS said he was not shaken by the challenges ahead, exuding confidence that the Opposition was on the right track.

“I have no fear at all, we will get there,” Matiang’i declared.

His remarks come at a time when the country’s political space is heating up with questions on how the Opposition plans to position itself ahead of 2027. By highlighting patience, patriotism, and institutional leadership, Matiang’i sought to reassure both supporters and critics that the journey was about national stability as much as it was about political competition.
