Matiang’i: My association with Jubilee proves I am a consistent politician

Presidential candidate Fred Matiang’i has defended his association with Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party, stating that his commitment to the party speaks to his consistency as a politician.

Speaking to a local radio station on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, Matiang’i justified his close association with the party, which he claims enjoyed remarkable success during its tenure as the ruling party.

Political consistency

Matiang’i dismissed assertions from a section of politicians to form his own political outfit, instead stressing that he ought to be praised for maintaining a consistent approach, unlike many politicians notorious for jumping parties and seldom maintaining a stance.

‘On Jubilee, I should be credited for consistency. I served and believed in its system then as I do now. I am not suddenly saying things that I would not have been proud to say then or do.

On the flip side, I remained faithful to the public journey. “How is it that I am not being credited for consistency in an environment where people have jumped parties even seven times?” he stated.

Matiang’i further shed light on claims that his candidacy was influenced by external figures commonly referred to as ‘projects’ within the political circles.

“Uhuru was a successful president, and everyone will want to be associated with him. But I am not running for president because he told me to run. I took a personal decision to run,” he added.

“After leaving the government, I took work at the bank after being hired on a competitive basis. Uhuru did not take me there. How is it that I am not a bank’s project?

Matiangi also faulted the Kenya Kwanza regime for failing to address issues that touch on the lives of Kenyans. He observed that Ruto’s administration could save itself from much financial hassle by just focusing on doing the right things and lending a listening ear.

“My simple and free advice is that they can spend less money by listening to wananchi. I normally tell people. Just show your work, and you will not need to justify your actions. The government needs to step up and seek feedback from people,” he stated.
