Jubilee Party presidential hopeful Fred Matiang’i has intensified his political mobilisation in the Mt Kenya region after holding a consultative meeting with Jubilee Party aspirants from Nyeri County as the party accelerates preparations for the 2027 General Election.

In a statement issued via his official X account on Monday, July 6, 2026, after the meeting, Matiang’i said the discussions focused on strengthening the party’s grassroots structures, enhancing internal organisation and building a united political movement capable of competing in the next polls.

“This morning, I held a productive engagement with Jubilee Party aspirants from Nyeri County. We had candid discussions on strengthening our party, deepening grassroots organization, and preparing for a united and credible journey towards the 2027 General Election,” Matiang’i stated.

He added that Jubilee’s focus remains on building a movement that resonates with ordinary Kenyans.

“Together, we will build a movement that reflects the hopes and aspirations of the Kenyan people,” he added.

Renewed push in Mt Kenya

The Nyeri meeting marks the latest stop in Matiang’i’s aggressive grassroots campaign as he seeks to revive Jubilee’s fortunes in one of Kenya’s most politically influential regions.

Over the past several months, the former Interior Cabinet Secretary has embarked on a nationwide tour aimed at rebuilding the party’s structures after Jubilee suffered significant losses during the 2022 General Election.

His recent engagements have included meetings with grassroots leaders, aspirants and party officials across several counties, as well as the launch of new Jubilee offices intended to strengthen the party’s presence ahead of the 2027 polls.

Last week, Matiang’i officially launched Jubilee’s branch office in Kirinyaga, describing it as part of a broader strategy to reconnect with supporters and re-establish the party at the grassroots.

Earlier this year, he also presided over the opening of Jubilee offices in Nakuru, saying the party would establish functional structures across the country as part of its campaign machinery.

Jubilee banking on grassroots structures

Matiang’i has consistently maintained that Jubilee’s path back to power will depend on rebuilding strong grassroots networks rather than relying solely on national political alliances.

Speaking during previous party meetings, he said Jubilee intends to field competitive candidates across the country while positioning itself as a credible alternative to President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration.

The party has already endorsed Matiang’i as its presidential candidate and has declared its intention to play a central role in forming the next government after the 2027 elections.

Jubilee officials have also announced plans to reorganise party structures from the polling station level to the national leadership as part of a nationwide restructuring exercise.

Political activity intensifies

The Nyeri meeting comes amid heightened political activity across the Mt Kenya region, where both the ruling coalition and the opposition are competing to consolidate support ahead of the next General Election.

Matiang’i has been making frequent visits to the region, meeting party members, aspirants and local leaders while positioning Jubilee as a key player within the broader opposition movement.

His latest engagement also comes days after he dismissed speculation that he had held political talks with Kisii Governor Simba Arati and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed following a chance encounter at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, clarifying that the meeting was unplanned before he proceeded to a church service in Kisumu County.
