Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has pledged to the fourth President, Uhuru Kenyatta, that he will not let him down after the party settled on him as the flag bearer ahead of 2027.

While speaking during a Jubilee delegate meeting held in Kiambu Town, Matiang’i, who also doubles as the deputy party leader of the former ruling party, thanked his boss, saying that Uhuru will never regret the decision of choosing him as the Jubilee flag bearer in 2027.

He continued by stating that he will ensure the Jubilee Party returns to power and brings back the policies that were present during the Uhuru Kenyatta regime, which were abolished by the current regime after it took over power.

“I thank my party leader for choosing me as the flagbearer. I will not let you down; by God’s grace, we will be back to power, and you will not regret making this decision. I will carry your hope and aspirations.”

He also stated that he is ready to work with other parties within the united opposition and even Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, alongside the Linda Mwanaichi movement, to send President William Ruto home in 2027.

This comes days after Fred Matiang’i unequivocally stated that the Jubilee Party needs to return to power. According to him, the widespread chaos witnessed in recent times, including protests by matatu operators, is evidence that the country needs the Jubilee Party back in power to address the challenges that have been created by the current regime.

“Somebody wanted to know why the Jubilee Party needs to return to power — today, you have the answer. This is the reason why Jubilee should come back.” Fred Matiang’i stated.

Matiang’i’s presidential bid

Matiang’i’s remarks come at a time when he is actively positioning himself for a presidential bid in the 2027 elections. His growing political influence was recently boosted after Jubilee appointed him deputy party leader and fronted him as a possible presidential flag bearer as well as a key figure within the united opposition movement.

Since then, Matiang’i has been traversing different parts of the country in an effort to popularise his 2027 bid.

He was recently accompanied by several opposition leaders during a tour of the Kisii region, where he was symbolically endorsed as the community’s spokesman and elder expected to champion its interests at the national level.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has also publicly expressed confidence in Matiang’i, describing him as “kifaru ya kazi” while urging Kenyans to rally behind his leadership ambitions.
