Mathira MP Wamumbi hits out at Ruto’s critics

Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi has reiterated his allegiance to President William Ruto whom he claims still enjoys support in the Mt. Kenya.
Speaking while accompanying the Deputy President in graduation in Nandi county on Friday, January 31, 2025, the first time MP dismissed those opposed to the government saying it was time to stop the noise and let the man work for Kenyans.
According to Wamumbi, Kenya Kwanza, like any other administration, has had its share of challenges since coming to power but has done well in addressing them.
Mountain support
“We have a president committed to working day and night for Kenyans. Sadly, others are determined to fight him and his policies. This government like any other has had its teething problems and he has promised we will tackle them. I’m from Mathira and I have said I will stick with President Ruto. I will continue to support him. There are many of us in the mountain who support him together with his deputy, Kindiki,” he said.
The lawmaker further took a swipe at the section of politicians from the mountain bothered with the government’s programs.
Echoing Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s remarks on Thursday, January 30, 2025, Wamumbi urged the Nandi community to disregard vaccination critics and take advantage of the exercise.
“You should support the vaccination of livestock program as it is meant to help the communities that undertake farming. Through it meat products will achieve a competitive edge in the markets abroad,’ he said.
“We didn’t hear much when people got bonuses of coffee and tea. It’s now that there have been murmurs and opinions when benefits are extended to others engaging in farming activities. Stop the noise, These other people are set to benefit from the government project. This country is for all of us, there is no foreigner we all depend on this government,” the former Konyu ward MCA added.
In what seems a follow-up to the government plans for the mass vaccination exercise scheduled to take effect this year, DP Kindiki emphasized that the livestock industry is critical for the Kenya-Kwanza government and that the government was making investments in the sector.
Relationship
Despite hailing from the same region and constituency of Mathira, Wamumbi has had a rather frosty relationship with Rigathi Gachagua.
The two shared a close bond after and before the 2022 elections. Gachagua’s influence saw Wamumbi’s political journey take the next step as he earned the UDA party parliamentary ticket.
The bond cemented further with former DP playing an influential role in the latter’s dowry negotiations.
The fallout between the pair came moments before Gachagua’s impeachment in 2024.
The MP came out publicly to state he urged the then second-in-command to stay in the government.
His pleas were however not heeded and was among the lawmakers who endorsed the ouster of the former DP at the height of the impeachment motion.
