Maraga pushes IEBC to accelerate voter registration and engage youth directly
Presidential candidate and The United Green Movement Party (UGM) party leader David Maraga has called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to move faster in registering voters and reach out directly to young people across the country.
In his remarks made on X on Thursday, March 19, 2026, in response to the ongoing #TukoKadi campaign, which has mobilised young people to participate in voter registration ahead of the elections, Maraga has applauded the youth-led campaign while urging the commission to adjust its voter registration schedule to meet rising demand.
“I have followed closely the #TukoKadi campaign by young people and applaud you for your leadership,” Maraga said.

He further stressed there is a need for the commission to be proactive and responsive to citizens, noting that the current registration plans may not match the urgency on the ground.
“The IEBC must change tact and bring forward their 30th March date for mass voter registration to meet the current demand,” Maraga stated in his statement on
Maraga also urged the electoral body to become more flexible and innovative in reaching voters, especially the youth who are key participants in the democratic process.
“We need a Commission that is agile and that adapts to the demands of its clients- the voters,” he added.

Maraga went on to propose practical methods for engaging young people outside conventional offices, encouraging IEBC to bring services closer to communities.
“This is the time for the Commission to be innovative!” Maraga said.
He went on to call on the commission to use outreach strategies such as caravans, concerts, and other youth-focused events to increase registration and participation.
“Go out to the places where youth are! Caravans, concerts etc are options,” he concluded.
