Maraga launches drive to register 5 million new voters
Former Chief Justice David Maraga has launched a campaign aimed at adding 5 million new people to the voters’ register ahead of the 2027 general election.
Confirming the development on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, the former CJ, who is also eyeing the presidency, said the ‘Ballot Revolution’ drive will start in Mombasa County on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, before spreading to all the remaining 46 devolved units in the country and the diaspora.
”We are pleased to launch the People’s Ballot Revolution campaign, which aims to add 5 million new voters to the voters register. The launch starts in County 001 (Mombasa) on 24 September. We shall traverse all 47 Counties plus the Diaspora! Your contribution to this voter registration campaign will be deeply appreciated,” Maraga said via his X account.
This drive follows the launch of the former CJ’s campaign website, which collected more than 500,000 Kenyan shillings in just two days.
Maraga’s voter registration campaign comes as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) had earlier announced that Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will resume on Monday, September 29, 2025, nationwide.
In a statement, IEBC said the initiative is aimed at ensuring all eligible citizens, especially youth who have recently attained the age of 18, are able to register and take part in future elections.

“The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) wishes to inform the public that Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will resume on Monday, 29th September 2025, in line with its constitutional mandate under Article 88(4) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010,” the commission said in a press release dated August 28, 2025, further noting that it has put in place measures to deliver an inclusive and transparent exercise.
“This exercise is a vital step in ensuring that every eligible Kenyan has the opportunity to participate in shaping the country’s future through democratic elections,” the IEBC stated.
Previously, Maraga had faulted IEBC for failing to carry out continuous voter registration as required by the 2010 Constitution, accusing the electoral body of deliberately disenfranchising millions of Kenyan youth.
In his Friday, August 22, 2025, statement, Maraga cited Article 88(4)(a) of the 2010 Constitution, which mandates IEBC to conduct continuous voter registration. However, he noted that the Commission has suspended the exercise since 2022, offering what he termed as “frivolous excuses” while openly violating the Constitution.
