Watu wa Amu! Hamyambo! N’raha si raha? It’s been real. Today, a record number of Lamu people were registered and verified as voters, all day long, with a promise to continue the exercise. I am proud of the UGM Party local offices who have come through shining. They have collaborated with IEBC local staff to ensure that every Kenyan’s constitutional right to access the ballot is enabled,” part of Maraga’s statement on X reads.

During the visit, Maraga was warmly received by local leadership and took time to console a bereaved family.

“While attending the Ukatiba Cravan today, I enjoyed a warm welcome to Lamu by the Deputy Governor of Lamu County, Dr. Mbarak Mohamed Salim Bahjaj. I also took time to condole with the family of the first Speaker of Lamu County Assembly and former Member of Parliament Hashim Fumo, who lost his mother, Halima Fumo this morning,” he wrote.

Maraga also highlighted stops made to local party offices and public squares as part of the registration drive.

“We later made a courtesy stop at the UGM Lamu County Branch office before proceeding to Mkunguni Square, where the Ukatiba Cravan Voter registration exercise was taking place,” the statement reads.

He urged residents to register as voters to secure government action on key local issues.

“Our Ukatiba Caravan is encouraging the people of Lamu to register and vote for a government that will prioritise training and opportunities to develop employable skills. Many residents here live on ancestral land, yet lack formal title deeds, creating disputes, insecurity, and tension. Registering as a voter will give residents a chance to elect a government that will address these challenges,” Maraga said.
