Manduku says he will ask Kisii people to exit ODM if broad-based govt fails

Nyaribari Masaba Member of Parliament (MP) Daniel Manduku has said that he will lead in asking the Kisii people to exit from any arrangement with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party if their expectations in the broad-based government are not met.
Speaking on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, during a televised interview with one of the local TV stations, Manduku said that the Gusii nation has not benefited from the current Kenya Kwanza administration.
However, he expressed optimism that the recent agreement signed between the ODM party and the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) will help the people of Kisii, but if it does not, he would ask them to exit the Orange party.
“In the last two and a half years, the Gusii nation has gotten the short end of the stick. If this arrangement is going to help our people, have a sense of nationhood, and benefit from this government, then so be it. We shall enter into it knowing that we have some expectations, and if our expectations are not met, we shall ask our people to gracefully exit from any arrangement from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM),” Manduku, who was elected on an ODM ticket, said.
Manduku on govt positions
The former Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Managing Director also expressed his disappointment that the few government positions that were available when ODM first entered into the broad-based government arrangement with Kenya Kwanza were all dished to the Luo Nyanza region, leaving out the Gusii nation, which has been supporting the Orange party.
Moreover, Manduku noted that the Gusii nation would give the broad-based government another chance, and if they do not get equitable allocations of resources and positions, they would exit.
“I have said it here before that we are not happy that the few positions that were available were all given to the Luo Nyanza, and I am on record, and I have no fear of contradiction. Let us give it a chance, and if we don’t get equitable allocations of resources and positions to the Gusii nation, then we have no business in this thing,” he said.
His remarks come ahead of the looming Cabinet reshuffle, which might claim several casualties to pave the way for ODM people following the joint working framework agreement that was on Friday, March 7, 2025, signed between ODM and UDA.
Several leaders from the Gusii nation have also maintained that they will rally behind former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i for presidency in 2027.
