‘We will arrest you’ – Malala warns Raila over planned demos

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala has warned Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga against the continuation of anti-government protests.

While addressing a crowd in Tana River county on Saturday, July 8, 2023, Malala stated that the former prime minister was a menace to the government and as such he will be arrested if he continues with the protests.

He also stated that the anti-government protests were sabotaging the government’s efforts to revive the country’s dwindling economy.

The former Kakamega senator further called on Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kthure Kindiki to ensure that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader is arrested if he proceeds with the demonstrations on Wednesday next week.

“We are putting up with you (Raila), but we are almost fed up. If you continue to destroy people’s property, chasing away investors and misusing youths…you are not above the law, we will arrest you and take you to court,” Malala stated.

Raila had on Friday, July 7, 2023, announced that he will be leading more protests on Wednesday next week.

At the time, the opposition chief stated that the protests were n response to the government’s failure to address ther grevances sch as the high cost of lvng, additonal taxes, electoral frad and biased recruitment of electoral commissioners.

“Ruto is imposing taxes without our consent and implementing laws that only make our lives more difficult. We cannot tolerate the current state of taxation and its accompanying injustices any longer,” Raila said.
