Malala hails elderly voters for turning out in large numbers during Ol Kalou primaries
By Emmanuel Rono, May 10, 2026Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala has praised senior citizens who turned out in large numbers to participate in the DCP party primaries in Ol Kalou that were held on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
In a statement on his Facebook page on May 9, 2026, Malala said he was humbled by the determination displayed by elderly voters who walked to polling stations despite their age in order to take part in the electoral process.
He described the exercise as inspiring and a strong show of commitment to democracy.
“The DCP party primaries across Ol Kalou were truly inspiring. It was especially humbling to see senior citizens, despite their age, walking determinedly to polling stations to participate in shaping history,” Malala said.
Show of patriotism
Malala stated that the participation of older generations demonstrated resilience, patriotism, and dedication to the country’s democratic process.
He added that the turnout reflected the growing enthusiasm among citizens to actively engage in leadership and governance matters.
“Their resilience, patriotism, and commitment to democracy remind us that the future of our nation is built on the sacrifice and participation of every generation,” he added.
DCP nominations Vs IEBC
Malala has expressed confidence in the ongoing party nomination exercise in Ol Kalou Constituency. While speaking to the press on Saturday, May 9, 2026, Olekalou, Malala said that the manner and order in which the Rigathi Gachagua-led outfit conducted its primaries have surpassed the standards used by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) during general elections.
He added that, among all the political parties he has been involved in, DCP is the only one that has conducted its primaries with such high levels of decorum.
“Nimekuwa kwa vyama vingi; mara ya kwanza kuona chama kinaendesha uchaguzi hata kuliko IEBC. Tulifanya preparations zetu mapema tukawana pre-nomination za meeting. Baada ya hiyo tukakutana na candidates wote,” Malala stated.
