Democracy for the Citizens’ Party (DCP) deputy party leader Cleophas Malala has expressed confidence that lawyer Edgar Busiega would win the Malava Constituency by-election.

In a statement, Malala revealed that Busiega was officially unveiled on Saturday, July 19, 2025, and presented to the electorate.

Judging by the reception, Malala remained bullish that Busiega would deliver the first elective seat to DCP, which is led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

“Malava has been explosive. Unveiling our DCP party candidate for the forthcoming Malava by-elections, Wakili Edgar Busiega,” Malala’s statement read in part.

“We are confident of delivering the seat to our party,” he added.

To field in other positions

Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, Malala disclosed that DCP will field candidates even in regions considered strongholds of President William Ruto’s allies.

“We have decided that we are going to field candidates in all the by-elections in Kenya—all the 22 MCA seats and all the six parliamentary by-elections. We are going to field candidates even in the Nyanza region,” he said.

Malala urged the newly sworn-in IEBC commissioners to move swiftly, ensure transparency, and uphold electoral integrity. He also demanded firm action against leaders who have claimed that the 2027 general elections will be rigged.

“We want to ask IEBC, we must now see you swinging into action. We will file a petition against those members who have made such reckless statements,” he added.

Banisa

DCP is also expected to present Aden Mohammed for the Banisa by-elections.

“This afternoon, my party reaped big after two formidable candidates, Hon. Aden Mohammed, Banisa, and Edgar Busiega, Malava Constituency, ditched their parties to join the winning team. The two candidates, who are frontrunners in their respective constituencies, were received at the party headquarters,” DCP’s said on Thursday, July 17, 2025.

The two constituencies are among the six set for by-elections and one senatorial post that have fallen vacant since 2023.
