Malala confirms plans for JKIA-to-Kamukunji procession for Gachagua
By Joel Masibo, August 21, 2025Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala has shared details ahead of the anticipated return of former Deputy President, DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking on a local TV station on Thursday Morning, August 21, 2025, Malala also warned the government ahead of former DP’s much-anticipated return from the United States, accusing President William Ruto’s administration of attempts to frustrate the homecoming.
He also said the party had formally notified the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja of plans to hold a peaceful procession from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Nairobi’s Central Business District before converging at the historic Kamukunji Grounds.
“We will be receiving our political leader, and we have officially notified the Inspector General that we will hold a peaceful procession from JKIA to the CBD and then to Kamukunji. We have received rumours that President William Ruto intends to divert Gachagua’s plane to Kisumu and Mombasa. We have also mobilised supporters in Kisumu to receive Gachagua,” Malala stated.
Gathering evidence of human rights violation
The DCP deputy leader further revealed that the party is compiling what he described as a dossier on “extra-judicial killings and illegal state detentions” perpetrated under President Ruto’s regime. According to Malala, the evidence will be forwarded to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in a bid to hold the government accountable.
“When our Party Leader, Rigathi Gachagua, comes, we are compiling all cases of extra-judicial killings and illegal state detentions. We intend to present a comprehensive case to the ICC to ensure this government is held accountable for these killings. We support compensation for victims, but there can be no compensation without justice,” he said.
In addition, Malala disclosed that DCP has petitioned the United Nations to block President Ruto from addressing issues touching on human rights at international platforms, accusing him of presiding over gross violations.
“We have petitioned the United Nations to block President Ruto from addressing matters related to human rights. He has been at the forefront of judicial killings and unlawful state detentions. We have also announced plans to gather 10 million signatures from Kenyans to petition the UN General Assembly to bar him from speaking on human rights issues,” he said amid DCP supporters gathering at the JKI waiting for Rigathi Gachagua after his one-month-long tour in the United States of America.
