Mike Makarina, a politician and an ambassador for people living with disabilities, has dismissed the current lineup of the United Opposition, claiming that if this is the team set to challenge President William Ruto, then the president has already secured victory.

In a statement shared on his social media platforms on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, Makaraina expressed his lack of confidence in the United Opposition, noting that in 2022, the Azimio coalition had a strong team backed by the sitting president, yet Ruto still defeated them at the ballot.

According to Makarina, for President William Ruto to win, he only needs a million votes from the Mt Kenya region, something that he believes he already has.

Nataka niambie Ruto hii si teamu ya kukushtua; Ruto anataka only one million votes from Mt Kenya ndio anashinde, na already ako nayo. Wewe unaweza shindana na mtu kama huyu?” Makarina said.

He went on to assert that there is no one in the United Opposition capable of defeating President Ruto in the upcoming elections. Makaraina also mocked PLP leader Martha Karua, saying that despite being a running mate in 2022, she failed to even deliver votes at her own polling station and predicts that the situation will remain the same in 2027.

Martha wakati wa Raila na hadi alikuwa running mate lakini hata hakufikisha kura elfu mia moja,” he added

United opposition

There comes a time when the united opposition is strategising on how to win in the 2027 elections.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua recently held talks with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya at his Karen home in Nairobi.

This marked the second time former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua met with George Natembeya, the first being during a joint rally in Western Kenya.

That event brought together all United Opposition leaders, including Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, Democratic Party (DP) leader Justin Muturi, and former Interior Cabinet Secretary and newly installed Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i.

Despite Natembeya and Gachagua meeting publicly on only two occasions, Gachagua has consistently viewed Natembeya as a leader capable of uniting the Western region and delivering significant numbers to the United Opposition.
