Kitui Central legislator Makali Mulu has torn into Deputy President Kithure Kindiki over his recent spat with his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking on a local TV interview on Monday, May 26, 2025, Mulu faulted the DP for getting drawn into a well-orchestrated scheme by the former Deputy President to get the current administration sidetracked.

His sentiments come after Gachagua, on Sunday, May 25, 2025, threatened to censure a section of Mt. Kenya musicians hosted by Kindiki during a past meeting in Karen.

The former DP, while demanding an apology from the musicians, castigated the ruling regime as one with hands filled with blood. He particularly referenced Kindiki’s tenure at the helm of the security docket when Gen Z protestors were killed by the police in 2024.

The remarks attracted the ire of his successor, who challenged Gachagua to stop lecturing people around.

Mulu contends that the DP and the Kenya Kwanza administration are falling squarely into where the opposition wants them.

“Normally, anyone outside the government would want to do anything possible to get to the government. The problem that we have is that when you provoke these in the government, instead of realising they have a manifesto to implement, they join you in politicking,” he opined.

“Personally, I will not be saying what the current DP is saying. I will focus on the manifesto and avoid the diversion. What Gachagua is doing is trying to put them off their manifestos and ensure that he is the only voice in matters of politics in the region,” he said.

He further bemoaned President William Ruto’s complicity in fueling the heightened political temperatures in the country, a state he says has come at the detriment of the delivery of service delivery and essential developmental work.

“The unfortunate bit is that both the president and his deputy are playing politics today, two and a half years before the election. They should be engaging in the implementation of their manifesto. This should be their bigger battle, and not responding to the opposition, which only elicits more replies coming their way,” he stated.

“There is so much talk from the government and the opposition that it blurs the most important things. You can see the crisis in the education sector. These are issues the DP and president should be focused on,” he advised.

In a fierce response to the former Deputy President, Kindiki questioned on what authority Gachagua was commanding Kenyans to boycott singers, asserting that he lacks the capacity to issue such orders.

“He speaks with contempt and menaces people. If you look at me now, I truly am not easily intimidated. Let us show mutual respect. Those musicians came fifty; now I intend to invite five hundred more to assemble in Karen and see what you will do,” Kindiki said.

“Let us respect each other, my friend. I am a man of honour, but if you come within shooting range, we will deal with you. And if you see us slow and composed, we are not pushovers. Do not lecture us; we are not your children. Take your lectures elsewhere,” he added.
