Makali Mulu backs calls for national conversation for political remedy
By Luke Oluoch, July 2, 2025Kitui Central MP Makali Mulu has added his voice to the calls for a national conversation to chart the way forward regarding the future of the country’s governance.
Speaking to a local radio station on Wednesday, June 2, 2025, Mulu stated that the conversations will address the relevant issues bedevilling the Kenya Kwanza government, such as the extrajudicial killings of the youth, among other issues of national importance.
“The issue of national conversation will be a discussion around what the people vested with power to lead are doing. It is the expectation of Kenyans that those in leadership should lead in a way that improves people’s lives. If not, it necessitates the talks of what we can do to rectify the situation and move on as a country,” the MP opined.
The MP referenced the call from religious leaders for dialogue, terming it as necessary given the current political situation in the country.
“I have heard Ruto responding to calls for his ouster by asking, ‘How do you want me to leave? Church leaders have said we can sit down and talk about what we need to do to have our country back. Kenyans have reached a point where they have lost their country, and they want it back,” he stated.

The sentiments from the Wiper-allied legislator come days after his party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, proposed that President William Ruto should consider stepping down from his office, citing the mounting opposition to his reign.
In an interview with Kameme TV, Kalonzo said that the Kenyan youths seemed to have made up their minds over Ruto’s leadership.
He stressed that the head of state should consider quitting as the only way to deal with the growing criticism from the country’s youthful population.
Get out
“In the situation we are in, I want to suggest to the president. He is in an intricate position. The rejection is overwhelming. My advice to him is that he get out of power along with his government team and let the boys chart the way forward. It is the only way Gen Z can deal with him,” he said.
