Majimbo Kalasinga reveals how Linda Mwananchi rallies are bankrolled, dismisses Uhuru links
By Mustafa Juma, May 5, 2026Kabuchai Member of Parliament (MP) Majimbo Kalasinga has shed light on the funding model behind the growing Linda Mwananchi political movement, a rebel faction of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on the night of Monday, May 4, 2026, Kalasinga insisted that the Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna-led Linda Mwananchi activities are internally financed.
He also dismissed claims that the faction’s activities are supported by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kalasinga dismissed claims that the movement is backed by external political financiers, saying its strength lies in collective contributions from like-minded leaders and grassroots mobilisation.
He explained that MPs aligned with the movement pool resources to support rallies across the country.
“Linda Mwananchi is a movement of its own; it is being financed by itself,” he said.
He revealed that individual contributions from legislators form the backbone of the funding structure.
“If I showed you my phone, how MPs allied to Linda Mwananchi contribute towards the rallies we have, you would love it. For example, at the last rally in Kisumu, I gave out Ksh50,000. When we are 20 MPs, and each gives Ksh50,000, do the math,” he added.

Minimal costs, grassroots mobilisation
According to the MP, the movement operates on a lean budget, focusing primarily on logistics such as public address systems and rally platforms.
“What we only need in our rallies is the platform and the public address. We only need to tell people where the rallies will be,” he said.
Kalasinga attributed the movement’s growing reach to organic support from citizens, particularly in rural areas.
“If you move across the country, deep in the villages, people are saying that ‘I am Sifuna’. If we were to spend money selling that slogan, it would be billions,” he noted.
Dismisses Uhuru funding claims
The legislator firmly rejected allegations that the movement is being financed by Uhuru Kenyatta or individuals linked to him.
“As I speak today, we are not funded by Uhuru Kenyatta as per some claims,” he said.

The claims have circulated in political circles amid heightened activity by the Linda Mwananchi faction, which has been holding rallies in different parts of the country.
Linda Mwananchi has emerged as a notable political formation, with leaders positioning it as a people-driven movement focused on addressing economic and governance concerns.
Kalasinga’s remarks come barely a month after Sifuna fiercely dismissed allegations linking Uhuru to the financing of the Linda Mwananchi grassroots movement, terming the claims politically motivated and lacking any factual basis.
Speaking during a morning interview on a local radio station on Thursday, April 30, 2026, Sifuna took direct aim at Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, challenging him to substantiate his assertion that he is aware of financial dealings involving ODM leaders and the former head of state.

Sifuna questioned the credibility of Murkomen’s remarks, suggesting he has intimate knowledge of opposition leaders’ movements and interactions.
“You heard Murkomen saying that we as politicians are under 24 hours’ surveillance, that Murkomen knows when I sleep and who I sleep with. So he surely must see me receiving money from Uhuru. Why can’t he show the country Uhuru Kenyatta and Edwin Sifuna exchanging money?” Sifuna posed.
He further maintained that attempts to drag Uhuru Kenyatta’s name into the affairs of the Linda Mwananchi movement were meant to distract from pressing governance issues and discredit opposition voices.
