‘Maa Nation’ cluster earns Raila points in Kajiado

Maasai leaders are upbeat over a move by the Azimio-One Kenya Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga to give the community a slot at the national negotiating table under the tag: ‘The Maa Nation Cluster’.
Kajiado Governor Joseph ole Lenku, who is the Azimio campaign steering committee chairman in the area, is leading the cluster. Others include Moitalel ole Kenta (Narok gubernatorial candidate), Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina and representatives from every region.

Lenku says the move would give the Maa-speaking countries a voice at the national level, including a fair share of the national cake and positions in government.
Speaking at an Azimio rally in Naikarra, Narok West sub-county, on Thursday, Lenku said the cluster would represent Kajiado, Samburu, Laikipia, parts of Baringo and Narok.
He said the community has been under the mercy of other regional blocks, like the Rift Valley group, and getting a raw deal.
Lenku was accompanied by Kenta and ole Kina at Jackson Koshal’s home. He stated that the Maa community supports Raila’s 2022 State House bid.
Kenta said Maa leaders believe that only Raila can fulfil the community’s aspirations through the Maa Cluster.
“We came here to implore our brother, Jackson Koshal, to drop his bid for the Narok West constituency position and give the chance to another Azimio candidate. We will stand a better chance of delivering the seat,” said Kenta. Ole Kina echoed the sentiments, saying Raila has the Maasai community’s interests at heart.
