Lusaka vows to beef up security as his feud with Bungoma senator intensifies
By Mabonga Makhanu, February 18, 2026Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka has vowed to beef up his security following a recent clash with his senator, Wafula Wakoli, which has now flared up.
In a video posted on his social media channels on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, the second-term governor expressed fears for his safety after the senator declared that he was “coming for him”.
The governor questioned the sudden change in tone from the senator, noting that it had been three years since he was elected and that he had never previously accused him of failing to deliver. He wondered why the senator had now emerged with threats, saying he does not understand what he intends to do to him or what he means by “coming for him”.

Because of those remarks, the governor said he will increase his security, admitting that he fears for his life and does not know whether the threats are political or something more serious.
“The senator has just come from nowhere. It’s 3 years since he was elected. He has never said that I don’t deliver, but all of a sudden he has just come out threatening to come from. I am now going to beef up my security because I don’t know what he wants to do to me. I don’t know if he wants to kill me or what. He has just said that he is coming for me. I don’t know why he is coming for me,” Lusaka said.
He further claimed that he personally used his own resources to campaign for the senator during the last general election to help him secure the seat. The governor hinted that he knows the source of the current hostility and promised to reveal more details at the appropriate time.
Wakoli-Lusaka beef
The remarks come just days after Senator Wakoli publicly criticised the governor over several issues, accusing him of failing to deliver development to the people of Bungoma who elected him.

Their feud recently escalated during the burial of the Kibabii University Deputy Vice Chancellor, where tensions ran high. The senator was reportedly almost attacked by a group of young men who advanced toward him after he maintained his sharp criticism of the governor during the funeral service.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, who was present at the funeral, condemned the attempted disruption and apologised on behalf of the political leaders in attendance.
Before this latest incident, the two leaders had been exchanging bitter words in public, with the governor at one point labelling the senator as an imposed leader.
