Lusaka: Ruto personally intervened to speed up Bungoma projects

By , August 30, 2025

Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka has told residents that President William Ruto has personally intervened to ensure that key projects in the county launched by him in 2024 are fast-tracked and completed.

Speaking in Bungoma on Friday, August 29, 2025, the governor said that while he and other leaders were inspecting the projects, they called the president together with the contractors handling projects such as the Bungoma Industrial Park and the stadium, which were launched by the president himself.

According to Lusaka, the Head of State scolded the contractors and instructed them to speed up completion.

The governor added that this forms part of a broader plan by the president in the run-up to 2027 to deliver key projects in Bungoma before the polls in order to silence opponents and critics. He said the Head of State is keenly monitoring what is happening in the county.

“The president is very keen on what is taking place in Bungoma. Now we are checking all the projects.

“We were at the industrial park, and the president personally called and scolded the contractors that they must be completed, including Chwele Market and all other markets in the county, so that we don’t have anything that our critics will latch onto during election time that Ruto failed to deliver for the people of Bungoma,” Lusaka said.

Upcoming by-election

Lusaka also stated that he is working hard to ensure Ford Kenya wins the Kabuchai Chwele Ward MCA seat that fell vacant following the demise of the area MCA, noting that the seat must remain under Ford Kenya so as not to embarrass National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, since it is his home ward.

“Tunaenda kuvamia Kabuchai kama Nyuki, under my leadership, nataka niulize all MCAs wa Ford Kenya; they are 29 in number, 20 elected, and the rest are elected. All of us will be in Kabuchai because we don’t want to have a situation whereby a ward where the National Assembly speaker resides is represented by an MCA from another party,” Lusaka added.

He further revealed that he, together with 20 other MCAs elected on Ford Kenya tickets, will pitch camp in Kabuchai to make sure the seat goes to the party.
