A section of the Luhya community council of elders in Trans Nzoia County has endorsed former Kiminini Constituency Member of Parliament Chris Wamalwa’s 2027 gubernatorial bid.

Led by Bukusu Council of Elders Chairman Christopher Makokha, the elders who converged at Wamalwa’s Kananachi residence said the former lawmaker has matured politically and possesses the requisite leadership qualities needed to spur economic growth and promote unity in the cosmopolitan county.

Speaking to the press, Makokha stated that after extensive consultations, they settled on Wamalwa, who was defeated by Governor George Natembeya in the 2022 general elections.

“We have given our blessings to Chris Wamalwa as he crisscrosses the county seeking support from other communities since Trans Nzoia is cosmopolitan,” Makokha said.

On his part, Ferdinand Wanyisia said their endorsement of Wamalwa is final and called on Trans Nzoia residents to rally behind him.

“In the past, we have seen the Council of Elders endorsing several politicians. Now that we have endorsed Chris Wamalwa, we will not endorse any other politician who is eyeing the seat of governor in Trans Nzoia County,” Wanyisia stated.

Welcoming the endorsement, Wamalwa said he is ready and prepared to take over from Natembeya, who has shown interest in national politics.

“My journey of becoming the third Governor of Trans Nzoia begins now. I decided to begin with my community’s elders because charity begins at home,” Wamalwa said.

The politician who served for two terms in the National Assembly revealed that he will seek blessings from other ethnic communities living in Trans Nzoia.

“Trans Nzoia is known for ethnic diversity. While I seek the blessings of all the communities in this county, I endeavour to unite all of them so that we steer this county to the next level,” he added.

So far, the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat has attracted Wamalwa, current Kiminini Constituency Member of Parliament Maurice Kakai Bisau and former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha.
