The Linda Mwananchi faction has stormed Kisumu city on Sunday, April 26, 2026, in a show of political strength in the region amid earlier threats by some local leaders that the rally would not take place in the city.

According to the clips seen by the People Daily Digital on Sunday, April 26, 2026, the faction was received with a heavy escort while heading for a church service before proceeding to the KaOwuor Grounds, where the rally is expected to take place.

Led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, among other leaders, they attracted a massive crowd of supporters, leaders, and activists, many chanting slogans and waving placards while calling for what organisers termed as people-centred governance and accountability.

Orengo warning

The rally comes amid escalating political friction in Nyanza, where rival factions have traded accusations over intimidation, disruption of meetings, and attempts to silence dissenting voices.

Siaya Governor James Orengo had earlier warned violent actors against alleged attempts to incite violence ahead of the planned rally at KaOwuor Grounds in Kisumu.

Taking to his X account on April 26, 2026, Orengo said those behind what he termed as orchestrated violence are well known, adding that their interests are equally understood.

Orengo warned them to abandon their plan, claiming that the Linda Mwananchi movement is unstoppable despite previous attacks during their rallies.

“We are fully aware of those orchestrating violence and the interests they serve. Abandon your schemes; this movement is an unstoppable force. The voice of the people is the voice of God. Tupatane KaOwuor Grounds !” Orengo warned.

Local leaders’ threats ahead of the rally

This comes after Alego Usonga MP Sam Atandi stated that the Linda Mwananchi rally, scheduled to take place in Kisumu, will not proceed.

While speaking during an interview on the Herman Manyora podcast aired on Thursday, April 23, 2026, the outspoken budget committee chair said Kisumu residents are not interested in the rally and will not attend it.

“First of all, it will not happen, so there is nothing that will make the rally successful. The rally can only happen if the people of that area are interested in it.”

“There is no mwananchi who wants to attend the rally. What I have been told is that they are organising university students from Maseno and various institutions around Kisumu. People of Kisumu are not interested in that rally.”
