Linda Mwananchi endorses Wundanyi MP Mwashako for Taita Taveta governor

The Linda Mwananchi team has rallied residents of Taita Taveta County to throw their weight behind Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako in his bid to become the county’s next governor in the 2027 general election.

Speaking during a rally in Mwatate on Saturday, July 18, 2026, the team, led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, urged residents to support Mwashako in his quest to unseat the incumbent governor, Andrew Mwadime.

Mkitaka shida zenu zikishwe, chaguenmi huyu mwashako kama givenro wenu,” Babu said.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, while addressing the charged gathering, told residents that if they wanted the challenges that have long plagued the county to come to an end, they should elect Mwashako as their next governor.

His sentiments were echoed by Cleve Gesairo, who fully backed the Wundanyi legislator, declaring that, in his view, Mwashako had already won the seat because of the overwhelming support he enjoys from the people.

The endorsement comes at a time when several leaders allied to the Linda Mwananchi movement have openly declared interest in various gubernatorial seats ahead of the 2027 general election.

Among the most notable is Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who has remained adamant about his bid for the Nairobi governorship, vowing to challenge incumbent Governor Johnson Sakaja.

Jubilee Party deputy organising secretary Pauline Njoroge, despite being a senior official in the Jubilee Party and previously expressing interest in the Nairobi governorship, has since shelved her ambitions and thrown her weight behind Babu Owino. She recently stated that she would be happy to serve as Owino’s running mate if he chooses her as his deputy governor candidate.

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, who is also a principal in the Linda Mwananchi movement, has equally expressed interest in the Vihiga gubernatorial seat.

Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, another key figure in the movement, is also eyeing the Kisii governorship and has already received the backing of Edwin Sifuna during the Linda Mwananchi rallies held in Nyamira and Kisii counties.

While endorsing Onyonka, Sifuna said he never imagined that Kisii Governor Simba Arati, whom he described as a friend, would one day sit in a meeting to deliberate on his removal as ODM Secretary-General, remarks that further fuelled speculation about growing political realignments within the opposition.

Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, who joined the Linda Mwananchi movement later, is expected to defend his seat as he seeks his final term in office in 2027.

Similarly, Siaya Governor James Orengo, despite previously being linked to national political ambitions, has also signalled his intention to seek re-election for a second and final term as governor.
