By Print Correspondent, July 13, 2023
In a surprise move, Samburu County Governor Jonathan Lelelit has made significant changes to his cabinet, just seven months after its formation.
The reshuffle, which aims to enhance effective service delivery, comes in the wake of ongoing investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) into allegations of conflicts of interest, abuse of office, and procurement irregularities within the county government.
Governor Lelelit stated that the reorganisation of his administration is essential for ensuring seamless service delivery to the people of Samburu.
The latest changes involve the swapping of positions between Rose Lekalesoi and Moses Leluata. Lekalesoi will now assume the role of County Executive Committee (CEC) for Roads, Transport, and Public Works, while Leluata will become the CEC for Water, Environment, Climate Change, and Energy. These new appointments are expected to take effect immediately.
Different departments
Governor Lelelit emphasised that these initial changes are just the beginning, hinting at further announcements of more alterations in the coming weeks. In addition to the cabinet reshuffle, four directors have been transferred to different departments within the county.
Ben Lengalen has been reassigned from the Environment, Water, and Natural Resources department to the Samburu National Reserve directorate.
Similarly, Sammy Lenanyokie has moved from the Department of Revenue to the Cooperatives directorate.
Tom Lesarge has been transferred from the Samburu National Reserve directorate to the Department of Environment, Water, and Natural Resources, while Joseph Kilonzo now serves in the Directorate of Agriculture.
