Leaders in Nakuru call for Ngunjiri’s arrest over alleged physical attack
Leaders in Nakuru have called for the arrest and prosecution of Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri over physical violence and intimidation of aspirants in the area.
The call follows a clip circulating on social media that captured the legislator and his team allegedly harassing the campaign team of Bahati parliamentary aspirant Irene Njoki.
Njoki, who was accompanied by former Naivasha MP John Mututho, to record a statement at Bahati Police Station called on authorities to take action against the MP before the situation gets out of hand.
Njoki told the media thaat her team was attacked on the campaign trail by goons before being chased away, saying it is an unfortunate move that should not be tolerated.
“You cannot think you are above the law and attack my team. It has been a habit and we will not let this one just slide,” said Njoki.
She added that Kimani had sensed defeat and resorted to using violence saying it was barbaric for the legislator to unleash goons to intimidate them.
“If you want votes just do it peacefully, do not seek sympathy votes when the law catches up with you by saying that the government is after you,”
“You are not above the law, the people of Bahati have known your character and it will not work this time around, I will follow it to wherever it goes,” said Njoki.
She, however, insisted she was not a coward and would not be intimidated by the acts saying violence meted out against women should be condemned with the highest terms possible.
“If you wanted to harm me, why go after my team, it is unfortunate that in this day and age we are witnessing these acts in politics,” she said.
She added: “I want this case to be a lesson to all those who think they can do such acts and walk free,”.
On his part, former Mututho while condemning the acts said it was unfortunate to unleash violence against women, especially during the campaign period.
Mututho said it was shameful to attack opponents and that standard practice demands that they sell their agenda and live in peace.
“You need to leave women alone, even if you are contesting, always respect them,” he said.
