Leaders from Mt Kenya call for Gachagua, Uhuru patch up
By Clement Kamau, January 24, 2025
A section of leaders from Mt Kenya have urged former President Uhuru Kenyatta and immediate former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to bury the hatchet for the sake of the region’s unity.
They said that once united under one umbrella body, the region will be in a position to form a formidable coalition with leaders from other regions and which will easily wrestle power from current regime during the 2027 polls.
Led by former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi, the leaders observed that political fragmentation should be avoided in the region for the sake of posterity.
“All leaders of sound mind should and must join hands to liberate this country from the yokes of the repressive Kenya Kwanza regime. Otherwise, we shall have no country to bequeath to our children,” Mwathi told People Daily yesterday.
Supporting Uhuru’s call on the Genz to fight for their rights Mwathi lashed out at those castigated the same terming them as politically myopic and retrogressive individuals.
“Uhuru was within his democratic rights of freedom of expression just like all of us and hence those rebuking him are either ignorant of the constitution or KK government cheerleaders,” he said. He added: “Many leaders including myself support the resistance to bad governance. GenZ and indeed all forthright thinking people should rise up against bad governance. Lecturers/ teachers, Doctors, Civil servants, mama mboga, boda boda, mkokoteni.”
