Kuria reacts after Senator Thang’wa rejects his request to join Gachagua’s camp

By , October 12, 2025

Former senior economic advisor to President William Ruto, Moses Kuria, has regretted that his ambition to work with the Democracy for Citizens Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua was thwarted.

Taking to his X handle on Sunday, October 12, 2025, Kuria shared a video clip of Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa strongly criticising him.

In the video, Thang’wa accused Kuria of attempting to interfere with the affairs of the Mt. Kenya political leadership.

The heated exchange has now drawn attention across the country, with Kenyans online reacting sharply to the public disagreement between the two leaders.

The fallout comes amid increasing political tension within the Mt. Kenya region, as leaders position themselves ahead of future power alignments.

Thang’wa defends Gachagua

In his statement, Senator Thang’wa dismissed Kuria’s calls for political unity under certain conditions.

He claimed that the former Cabinet Secretary was trying to dictate terms to the Ex-Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

“Mimi niko na jambo moja tu. Sasa hivi, Kasongo amepanic. Ameanza kutuma watu wetu wa mlima kukuja kututawanisha. Ametuma kijana moja kutoka kule Kiambu, kupea Riggy G masharti.

“Anaambia Riggy G ati lazima uongee na Waiguru, lazima uongee na Karinda (Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire), wewe Moses Kuria wewe, tunakuona. Riggy G si mtu wa kupewa masharti,” said Senator Thang’wa.

Thang’wa’s remarks were widely interpreted as a direct rejection of Kuria’s proposal to join Gachagua’s camp.

His comments further fueled online debates about the growing division among Mt. Kenya leaders and whether the region can achieve political unity before the next general election.

In response, Moses Kuria expressed disappointment over the senator’s reaction and defended his earlier proposal for unity.

He said his offer was meant to strengthen the Mt. Kenya political base and ensure leaders work together for the good of their region.

“After my offer to work with our self-declared kingpin on condition he stops insulting women leaders, this is how his kitchen cabinet has responded to my offer for unity of our region.

“The problem with Rigathi Gachagua is that, unlike Jomo Kenyatta, Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta, he surrounds himself with f**ls, neophytes and rookies. The bar has fallen too low,” Kuria said on his X post.

The former CS’s remarks have sparked fresh debate on leadership style, political loyalty, and generational change in Mt. Kenya politics.

As both leaders exchange words publicly, it remains unclear whether efforts to unite the region’s politicians will succeed or deepen existing divisions.
