Kiunjuri: I will beat Gachagua if we vie for Laikipia governor’s seat

Kiunjuri, who has previously indicated interest in vying for the position of county governor, has hinted that his track record and performance will make the people of Laikipia elect him once again.
In a passionate address on Kameme TV on Monday, February 23, 2026, Kiunjuri affirmed his determination to make sure that the region developed as Kenya approached the 2027 general election. In the heated debate about Gachagua, Kiunjuri has hinted that he would be vying for the top seat in Laikipia, although in an indirect manner.
“I have dedicated my life to serving the people of Laikipia. I know my work will get me re-elected. I am sure that, when the time arrives, even if I were to compete with Rigathi Gachagua for the position of governor in Laikipia, I would defeat him,” Kiunjuri said.
The Service Party (TSP) leader, Kiunjuri, who is the sitting Member of Parliament in Laikipia, told Kameme TV that he is very much in touch with his people and is certain that his track record and current efforts in the constituency would translate into future political backing.
Kiunjuri’s political journey

After joining the elective political arena way back in 1997 and having served in different parliamentary and cabinet posts, Kiunjuri has established himself as a leader who has experience in his leadership and can guide the people of Laikipia to greater heights.
The political career of Kiunjuri has been one of strength. In 2022, he again gained influence in local politics by winning the Laikipia East seat, having lost his parliamentary seat in 2013 after unsuccessfully vying for the governor’s position. This extended career and diverse experience, including holding cabinet offices, has been the main theme in his campaign that has made him emphasise stability, continuity and service delivery.
